A World Track and Field STAR enjoys a Footprints Waipoua NIGHT walk
Alysia Montano the American athlete who finished fourth in the 800m at the World Champs held in Daegu behind Mariya Savinova (Russia), Caster Semenya (South Africa) and Kenia Sinclair (Jamaica) enjoyed a Footprints Waipoua 'Twilight Encounter' night tour.
Accompanied by her new husband Louis on a 3 week extended "mini moon" (a second honeymoon) to New Zealand, Alysia marvelled at the silhouettes of the giant kauri trees Te Matua Ngahere and Tane Mahuta.
Generally used to covering 800m in 1:57.34, Alysia covered the 1.5km in approximately 3 hours.
There is no doubt that the 800m event at next year's London Olympics will definitely have much more meaning to those who were lucky enough to enjoy her company. The NIGHT a World Track and Field STAR visited the giant kauri trees of the Waipoua forest will be a night to remember.
Check out her thoughts about her NZ trip at the below link titled "The Way of the Kiwi": www.alysiamontano.com/index2.php#/multi-text_8/1/.

UNDP China Delegation
A United Nations Development Group from China visited us during December. This was a State Ethnic Affairs Commission (SEAC) International study tour to New Zealand. The SEAC/UNDP Study Group delegations purpose was to learn about New Zealand's approach to indigenous development. This was a Te Puni Kokiri initiative supported by the team at New Zealand Maori Tourism. We look forward to maintaining communication and developing opportunities to build on the relationship as a result of their visit.
